Everyone who joins a gym does so with a personal goal in mind. Some want to lose weight. Some want to build more muscle. Some want (or need) to improve their health. And others wish to train for an athletic event, race or sport.
But what happens when that goal is reached? When you’ve lost that 10 or 20 pounds, built the lean muscle and strength, or finished the race at your personal best? What motivates a person to keep going in fitness?
This, dear friends, is that wonderful state of being that we call “the fitness life”. It’s when you have reached the point in fitness where you look great, feel great and your doctor is thrilled with all your health indicators. It’s when you choose to exercise for the joy of it – maintaining the healthy physique and lifestyle you’ve earned through hard work and dedication.
The fitness life is about embracing activities you never thought possible. Taking on new challenges because you CAN.
For those of us who work at Koko FitClub locations across the country, or here at the corporate headquarters in Massachusetts, there is nothing more thrilling and rewarding than to hear from members who are accomplishing things they never thought possible, “thanks to Koko.” Rock on.

“Thank you Koko!!! Last weekend I completed my first Tough Mudder!! 10 miles and 25 obstacles up Mt Snow! I could not have even done most of the obstacles if it was not for the program I am on! Thank you for helping me teach my kids that Mommy & Daddy exercise too and see what we can accomplish!! Spartan Sprint… here I come!!!” – Kathy Anderson
“I feel better now in my mid-40′s than I did in my mid-20′s! I lost 50 pounds and 6 pant sizes, increased energy and gained almost 100% strength. Koko doesn’t look like any gym I’ve ever seen. It’s so simple, clean and peaceful. Because of Koko, I am hooked on fitness. I not only run in 5k’s, but I am a certified fitness instructor. Now, I can actually participate during PE with my 6th graders instead of just watching from the sidelines.” – Eric Ball
Fifty-year-old Cathy Craig joined Koko FitClub to stay strong and healthy, but she never imagined it might lead to obstacle racing! When her friend Carly persuaded her to compete in a challenging Warrior Dash adventure race, Cathy had never run a race before. She certainly never envisioned herself crawling through mud, scaling walls and leaping over fire for sport.
“I never thought I would do something like this in a million years,” said Cathy. She began a daily Koko regimen of strength training and cardio in preparation for the event in Tennessee.
When she beat her expected time by half, she knew she just had to do another one. Accompanied by her son, Richie, and two co-workers, Cathy registered for another race just three weeks later! The Louisiana course along the Amite River was hillier than her first, but Cathy was ready. Of 7,245 participants 96.6% of them were younger than Cathy, and she still managed to beat over half the women there.
“I’m so thrilled that WE DID IT!” said Cathy. “There was nothing easy about it. I loved the way it felt to cross that finish line and I know this won’t be the last time for me.” – Cathy Craig
“I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Koko for establishing this awesome gym and helping me achieve a dream of mine to summit Mt. Whitney in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. At 14,505 ft (4421m), Whitney is the highest mountain in the 48 contiguous states and one of the highest in North America. I was able to summit and return in one day. A total of 22 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 6200 ft. Being at such a high altitude, this hike is considered to be one of the most difficult in the United States. I trained for 3 months and lost over 17lbs. I also lowered my resting heart rate from 72 to 62 bpm’s. Amazing! By the way, I used the Mt. Whitney workout program that is programmed on the treadmills at my local Koko FitClub. Thank you again…. you have changed my life! – Chris Cook. (Learn more about Chris’s climb here.)
“Last November, I did something that I never thought I’d do. I completed a Spartan Race! It was hard, but my strength and cardio conditioning at Koko had prepared me for it. I got to run it with Koko owners [and Master FitCoaches] Paul Romeo & Adam Landry, and FitCoaches Luke and Susan. At one point, Paul and I got on the rowing machines at the same time. He looked at me and said, ‘Alright, it’s going to be a killer!’ We had to row 500 meters in 2 minutes, and I’m proud to say that I did it in just under that time.
