Make Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick with SCRAM

Stick-To-Resolutions-2015Are New Year’s resolutions even worth it? Only one in 10 people stick with them for a year, and a majority don’t last more than six months.

More often than not, the problems start with the resolution itself, said Chris Carr, PhD, a sports performance psychologist with St.Vincent Sports Performance and the Indiana Pacers.

A resolution that is too vague or too lofty can lead to frustration, discouragement and ultimately, defeat. Set yourself up for success by using Dr. Carr’s recommended “SCRAM” method, making a goal that is Specific, Consistent, Reasonable, Attainable and Measurable.

“The New Year is a great time to improve your health and fitness,” said Dr. Carr, who has been working with amateur and elite athletes for more than 25 years. “But in order to change, your goal should be something deeply personal and emotional. This is the best way to ensure internal motivation.”

Take a few minutes to watch Dr. Carr’s video on New Year Resolutions and start your new year off on the right foot.
